In loving memory of Elaine Marie Jeanette Bruyere, 63, of Couchiching First Nation, Ont., who passed away with family at her side on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000 after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Elaine was predeceased by her husband, Irvin “Sonboy” Bruyere, on Oct. 29, 1987; her parents, James and Martha Calder; sisters, Joan, Darlene, and Marion; brother, Sonnyboy; as well as numerous extended family members.
She leaves behind her children, Connie (Ed) Calder, Bill Bruyere, Sam (Candace) Bruyere, and Allison (Garth) Lockman, all of Couchiching First Nation; grandchildren, Cherity, Jesse (Beverly), Jason (Val), Jane, Eddie, Angela, Ian, Irvin, Allan, Joseph, and baby Kenya; and great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Dawson, Arial, Marcus, and Ketura.
Also surviving are special sister, Sharon (Eric) Ewen of Burnaby, B.C.; brother, Albert (Verna) of Couchiching; special nephews, Kenny Morrison, Duane Morrison, and Richard Morrison; special niece, Loretta Morrison; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Dokuchie, Edith Myberg, Mabel Bruyere, Mildred Bruyere, Shirley I. Bruyere, and Lucy Bruyere; brothers-in-law, Ralph (Joan) Bruyere, Tom (Anne) Bruyere, and Allen Singleton Sr.; special cousins, Vernon and Steve Mainville; her dearest friend, Marilyn Perrault; and her cherished dog, Vern.
Elaine was born March 24, 1937 in Fort Frances, Ont. She was united in marriage to Sonboy on June 15, 1960. During her time with him, they enjoyed spending time on the lake. They did all sorts of things with their close friends, Marilyn and Chic Perrault, and Chuck and Bubby Roach.
After losing both their husbands, Marilyn became like a sister to her.
Elaine enjoyed spending time with Donalda bear watching, and with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved to get together and have sing-alongs, and loved to have Ken play the guitar for her.
A visitation was held Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000 from 7 until 8:30 p.m., with parish prayers at 7 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances.
Funeral mass was held Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Couchiching First Nation. Father Eugene Whyte O.M.I. officiated, with interment in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Gary Lockman, Wesley George Bruyere, Kip Mainville, Randy Bruyere, Sheldon Perrault, and Dale Morrisseau.
Honourary pallbearers were Donalda Mainville, Linda Monahan, Marilyn Perrault, Mildred Bruyere, Bubby Roach, Jane Mainville, Melvina Morrisseau, Dorothy Dokuchie, Verna Calder, Ken Morrison, Dolly Roach, and Mackie Mainville.
