Together again.
Peacefully, with her family gathered around her, Eileen Kathleen Christine Calder joined her husband of 67 years, Ernest John Howard Calder Sr., one year and one day to the date of his passing as he welcomed her home on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011.
She was 84 years old.
Born April 1, 1926 in International Falls, Mn. to Lawrence and Phyllis Decker, Eileen attended schools in the Falls.
At the age of 16, she married her true love, Ernie, on Sept. 12, 1942 in Fort Frances, Ont. They shared 67 years of love, life, and laughter.
He passed away Jan. 28, 2010 at the age of 88.
Throughout the years, Eileen had been an employee at Elliott Brothers, Stedman’s, and the Fashion Closet. She also was a 40-year plus member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary Br. #29 in Fort Frances, of which she was very proud.
Eileen and Ernie enjoyed camping and fishing at Morson Provincial Park for several years with family and many special friends, including Gordy and Kim Gushulak, Ethel and the late Don Lowey, and John and Eva Moran.
Together, she and Ernie raised five children.
She is survived by sons and daughters, Lawrence (“Lonnie”) and Laura Calder, Lenore (“Lennie”) and Dr. Michael Adams, Ernest Jr. (“Guy”) and Wendy Calder, Debbie and Rod Hebert, and Kevin and Tammie Calder; grandchildren, Dorla and Murray Wright, Todd and Donna Calder, Guy and Donalda Calder, Terril Calder and Brander Olafson, Tom Hebert (Carla Hanzuk), Lisa Price (Tylar Hyatt), Jason and Julie Hebert, Vicki and Curtis Blanchard, Ben and Rachel Hebert, Tyler Calder, Matthew Calder (Nathalie Donaldson), Tanner Calder (Samantha Luoma), and Max Calder; and 20 great-grandchildren.
As was Ernie, Eileen was the last surviving sibling.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents, Lawrence and Phyllis Decker; brothers, Roland “Smokey” Decker and John “Jack” Decker; sisters, Dorothy Cook and Delores Loken; and an infant granddaughter, Toni Calder.
Family and friends are welcome to a celebration of Eileen’s life, which is planned for Friday, Feb. 4, 2011 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion in Fort Frances.
