The family of Eileen Hannah Armstrong (née Whalen) is very sad to announce her passing on Friday, Sept. 23, 2011 at the age of 93.
A Bright Light Went Out Today . . .

The family moved to Blackhawk, Ont. in 1920 and to then Stratton, Ont. in 1935.

Eileen was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Melvin, Henry, Joe, Burton, and Minard; sisters, Geraldine, Ruby, and Marie; husband, Terry, who passed away June 3, 2005; and her son-in-law, James White.
She is survived by her sisters, Genevieve and Gladys; children, Coleen (Dan), Lorraine (Colin), Brian (Betty), Marilyn, Pat (Sandy), Greg (Noreen), Kevin (Teresa), and Tim (Betty); grandchildren, Dale, Bridgit, Holly, Carolyn, Darren, Jeniffer, Scott, Malorey, Brian, Cassandra, Kyle, Shaun, Trevor, and Nena; and great-grandchildren, Sasha, Paxton, Kostya, Fisher, and Page.
Eileen lived life with dignity, optimism, love, and faith in God. She was a charter member of the Catholic Women’s League at St. Patrick’s Church and was devoted to her Catholic upbringing.
Our Mother was a wonderful woman with a beautiful smile and a gentle soul. She always made us feel loved and appreciated, and we had her complete support.
She had a way of making us feel special and had a very positive attitude. “We have a lot to be thankful for,” she would say.
Eileen always had a special bond with her siblings. She also adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and always looked forward to visits with her nieces and nephews.
Eileen enjoyed life. She had a great sense of humor and always appreciated a good laugh. Travelling with her friends, annual trips to Alberta and B.C. to visit family were very important to her.
Other pastimes included bowling, meeting friends at Bingo, reading, and doing crosswords and puzzles. Weekly outings to the Pioneer Centre were a large part of Mom’s life in these last years.
A memorial mass was celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church in Atikokan on Oct. 1, 2011, with Fr. Elvis Odoegbulem officiating.
The family would appreciate in memoriam donations being directed to the St. Patrick’s C.W.L. or the Atikokan General Hospital Foundation.
