Edward Holborn, 86, of Rainycrest Home for the Aged, 550 Osborne St., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away at his residence Tuesday, May 26, 1998.
He was born Feb. 29, 1912 in Souris, Man. to the late William and Mildred Holborn. Edward moved to the Rainy River District in 1941, and on July 12 of the same year, he was united in marriage to the former Annie Falloon.
Edward worked for the Department of Highways for 22-and-a-half years, until his retirement in 1968. In 1973, he and his wife, Annie, moved to Fort Frances, where they have lived since.
In his earlier years, he enjoyed working with horses, gardening, and working on cars. Edward especially loved and enjoyed his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Clifford in 1918, Alvin on May 12, 1987, and Robert in January, 1990; and by three sisters, Phoebe Jaggard, Ethel Downey, and Kathleen Marshall.
Edward is survived by his wife, Annie Holborn of Fort Frances, Ont.; two sons, John Holborn of Fort Frances, Ont., and Clarence Holborn and wife, Nancy, of Red Deer, Alta.; three daughters, Beatrice Loveday, Betty and husband, Allan Cann, all of Emo, Ont., and Irene and husband, Terry Pettis, of Crozier, Ont.; 20 grandchildren, Trevor and Scott Holborn., Andrea, Stephanie, and Cheryl Holborn, Sandra and husband, Ron Ogier, Glen Loveday, Gary Loveday and friend, April, Morris Loveday, Warren Loveday and friend, Tammy, Keith Loveday, Lindsay Loveday, Todd Shaw, Doug Cann and Ruth, Brian Cann and wife, Erica, Bruce Cann, Bradley Shine, Darryl Shine and wife, Tammy, Brent Shine, and Kevin Pettis and wife, Lisa; and numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
He also is survived by three brothers, Elmer Holborn of Thunder Bay, Ont., Bill Holborn and wife, Alice, of Atikokan, Ont., and Jim Holborn and friend, Jenny, of Thunder Bay, Ont.; one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Holborn of Dance Township, Ont., one brother-in-law, Orn Marshall of Thunder Bay, Ont.; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 29, 1998 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Patrick Playfair officiated, with interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
Friends visited Thursday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances.
Pallbearers were Paul Wepruk, Jerry Anderson, Bert Van Drunen, Stewart Hubert, John Piotrowski, and Dalton Smith.
