In loving memory of Edna Miller, 82, of Fort Frances, Ont., who passed away Monday, April 9, 2001 at Rainycrest Home for the Aged in Fort Frances.
Edna is survived by her sons, Gary Miller and wife, Diane, of Fort Frances, Ont., and Jack Miller of Sapawe, Ont.; grandson, Darren Miller and his daughter, Krystal, of Thompson, Man.; granddaughter, Terri Miller and husband, Michael Stewart, and their son, Everett, of Calgary, Alta., and granddaughters, Kari Miller of Thunder Bay, Ont. and Diane Webb of Dryden, Ont.
Also surviving are her sister, Bessie Hicketts of Thunder Bay and her daughters, Betty Whatley and Joyce Essa, of Thunder Bay, and her son, Ed Hicketts, of Kamloops, B.C.; brothers-in-law, Bill Miller of Fort Frances, Ont., and Jim Miller of Winnipeg, Man.; and sisters-in-law, Bethel Miller and Bernice Miller, both of Fort Frances, Ont.
She was predeceased by her husband, Holmes Miller, on Jan. 28, 1992; parents, John and Isabella Richardson; and brother, Ralph Richardson.
Edna was born Jan. 17, 1919 in County Durham, England. She moved to Canada at the age of 10 and settled in the Burriss area with her family. She travelled to Petawawa, Ont. where Holmes Miller was stationed and they were united in marriage July 2, 1941.
While Holmes served overseas, she taught at the Deerlock, Devlin, and La Vallee schools. After he returned from the war, they ran the Miller Store in La Vallee for 34 years, retiring in 1979.
Edna also was treasurer of the La Vallee United Church Women for 20 years.
She enjoyed flowers, gardening, birds, swimming, and picking up rocks at the cabin on Base Line Bay, and snowmachining. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, passing down her knowledge of nature and teaching them to play the organ.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, April 11, 2001 from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 12, 2001 at 2 p.m. at Guthrie United Church in Devlin, Ont. Rev. Frances Flook will officiate, with interment in the Devlin Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jack Miller, Darren Miller, Rocky Brown, Tom Morrish, Gordon Cornell, and Jim Munro.
Honourary pallbearers will be Krystal Miller, Terri Miller, Mike Stewart, Everett Stewart, and Kari Miller.
