Red Belluz, 70, of 707 Nelson St., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Thursday, April 8, 1999 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
He was born Oct. 10, 1928 in Fort Frances to the late Arturo and Salute Belluz. Red had lived all of his life in Fort Frances, and on Oct. 10, 1951 was united in marriage to the former Melba Graydon.
Red had worked as an auto mechanic at Mel Newman’s and Voyageur Ford until his retirement four years ago following 55 years of work.
Following his retirement from Voyageur Ford, he carried on with “Rainy Lake Marine-Fort Frances,” which he began and operated since the 1960s.
Red was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances. His interests included woodworking and airplanes, and he could repair anything that had a motor in it, especially his grandchildren’s cars, which he kept running.
Red loved to watch curling and recently had attended the Brier in Winnipeg, Man. with his wife, Melba. He also loved to watch his grandchildren play hockey and spend a lot of time at the arena with his family.
He was predeceased by his brother, Paul Belluz.
Red is survived by his wife, Melba Belluz of Fort Frances, Ont.; five sons, Wilfred Belluz and wife, Lynn, Paul Belluz, Roy Belluz and wife, Gael, all of Fort Frances, Ont., Edward Belluz and wife, Sherri, of Guelph, Ont., and Danilo Belluz and friend, Kirsten Palfrey, of Victoria, Australia; six grandchildren, Jennifer and husband, Clayton Cain, and Melissa and husband, Jamie Busch, and Shane, Kayla, Greg, and Anthony Belluz; three great-grandchildren, Ashley and Elizabeth Cain, and Carley Busch.
Also survivng are one brother, Cam Belluz and wife, Josephine, of Fort Frances, Ont.; two sisters, Hilda and husband, Jack Rizzo, of International Falls, Mn., and Marie and husband, Mike Eliuk, of Sioux Lookout, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 12, 1999 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances. Fr. Ed Kosa O.M.I. officiated, with interment in Holy Cross Cemetery in Fort Frances.
Friends visited Sunday, April 11, 1999 from 7 until 9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home, with parish prayers offered at 7:30 p.m.
Pallbearers were Gordon Melville, Robert Belluz, Michael Belluz, Glen Graydon, George Franko, and Michael Graydon.
Honourary pallbearers were Albert Bernardi, Ron Bernardi, Rudolph Coran, Bert Smeeth, Sam Piccinato, Ken Egan, Len Glueheisen, and Doug Graydon.
