Eddie Medicine

Eddie Medicine, 66, of Rainy River First Nations, passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, Sept. 8, 2006 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Eddie was born May 18, 1940 in Emo, Ont. to Jack and Frances Medicine. He grew up in Manitou Rapids, attending residential boarding school as a young boy.
Eddie was a hard worker. He spent many years in the logging industry working as a lumberjack throughout Northwestern Ontario and Minnesota. Despite having to travel for work, Eddie always called Manitou Rapids his home.
Eddie’s joy in life was found in the time he spent with his family and friends, and fishing for sturgeon and walleye.
Eddie will be remembered for his generosity and kind heart. Without any hesitation, he would share whatever he had with anyone in need.
All who had the privilege of knowing him will remember Eddie’s hospitality and welcoming spirit. His door was always open to visitors with whom he would share his many stories—some true, some slightly exaggerated but all treasures.
Eddie lived his life of simplicity with vigour and integrity. His trueness and loyalty to his family and friends is an inspiration for all who knew him.
Eddie will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by his son, Gordon “Oranges” Medicine of New Mexico, U.S.A.; daughter, Lois “LuLu” Medicine of Thunder Bay, Ont.; numerous grandchildren; siblings, Liza Medicine of Whitefish Bay First Nation, Joe (Florence) Medicine of Rainy River First Nations, and Berla (Robert) Horton of Rainy River First Nations; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and extended family.
Eddie was predeceased by his grandparents, Albert and Eva Medicine and Pete Spoon; parents; Jack and Frances Medicine; infant brother, Stanley; sister, Angel; and brothers, Donald and Alex.
A wake was held Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006 at 4 p.m. at the Rainy River First Nations gymnasium.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2006 at 10 a.m. at the Rainy River First Nations gymnasium, with Fr. Dan Debano officiating.
Interment took place in the family cemetery on Rainy River First Nations.
The pallbearers were Jon Medicine, Curtis Medicine, Darryl Horton, Fabian Bird, Derek Horton, Timothy Medicine, Tony Bombay, and Marcel Horton.
The honourary pallbearers were Kristi Medicine, Heather Horton, Tammy Horton, Snow White, Doug Horton, Jack “Bones” Hawk, Ben Brown Jr., Gaylord Horton, Glen Medicine, and Uncle Tom Medicine.
