Ed Sivonen

It is with deep regret the family of Ed Sivonen of Fort Frances, ON announce his passing on Tuesday, January 29, 2002 at the age of 78.
Ed will be sadly missed by his six children, Gary (Susan) Sivonen of Winnipeg, Nancy (Brian) Allan of Devlin, Judy (Doug) Sivonen of Fort Frances, MaryAnn Christianson of International Falls, MN, Terry Sivonen of Victoria, B.C., and Tina (Jamie) Roth of Fort Frances; and his seven stepchildren, Leonard Maki, Karen Maki, Sharon Maki, Evelyn Fraser, Albert Maki, Ron Maki and Bradley Maki.
Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and his canine friend and companion, Sheena.
Ed was born April 23, 1923 at the family farm on Frog Creek Road, where he resided until the time of his death. He lived all of his life in the Rainy River District and led a full life with many interests. Ed was a self-employed farmer, logger and trapper. He also was employed by Boise Cascade in 1952 for over 33 years until his retirement in 1985.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Ed was predeceased by his common-law wife, Betty Maki; his parents, Arvid and Manta Sivonen; an infant sister, Maria; and his grandson, Eric John Sivonen.
Visitation was held Friday, Feb. 1, 2002 at 1 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with funeral service following at 2 p.m. Rev. Marietta Marshall officiated, with a private family interment afterwards at Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
Friends joined Ed’s family for lunch after the services at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 29 in Fort Frances.
Pallbearers were Gary Sivonen, Terry Sivonen, Jamie Roth, Brian Allan, Leonard Maki and Doug DeBernardeaux. Honourary pallbearers were Jack Smeeth, Bert Smeeth, Arnie Lahti, Steve Caul, Wilf Lockman, Raimo Tryvainen and Bob Gadd.
