Ed Rinas, 70, of Crozier, Ont., passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002 after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
He was born July 16, 1931 in Fort Frances, Ont. Ed attended school in Fort Frances and then in his younger years moved to Sudbury, where he worked in the mining industry for a while.
In the 1950s, he returned to Fort Frances, where he worked as a self-employed carpenter at Northland Construction. From carpentry, he graduated into the tourist outfitting business, where he worked for about 25 years.
Ed was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, trapping, and flying his plane.
Ed is survived by his loving wife, “Nikki,” sons, Richard (Debbie) of Barrie, Ont., Robert (Hanna) of Tyler, Texas, and Roger (Janice) of Steinbach, Man.; their mother, Kaisu Rinas of Tofield, Alta.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, John, of Thunder Bay, Ont.; one sister, Natalie (Brian) Greig of Gibsons, B.C.; and by many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Marie and Edmund Rinas; and by one brother, Mooney.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002 at 10 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Rev. Marietta Marshall will officiate, with interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
Friends may visit prior to the funeral service from 9 a.m. until service time at Green Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Michael Greig, John Greig, James Greig, Benjamin Rinas, Timothy Rinas, and Joe Georgeson.
