EARLE THURBER

Earle Ellsworth Thurber, 83, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances.
He was not alone. Tough as ship’s rope until he sailed.
Earle was one of 11 children born to the late Percy and Belle (Garron) Thurber of Freeport, N.S., where he grew up.
Born and raised a commercial fisherman in Freeport, Earle captained his own boat. He then branched out to Northern Ontario to explore his future in gold claim staking, where he found his “gem,” Joyce, in Manitowadge.
They were to be married for more than 50 years.
He spent some time driving trucks and logging, but settled in Thunder Bay, Ont., where he raised his family and continued working in gold and nickle mines.
In his later years, he moved to Fort Frances to be near Danny and his family.
Earle is survived by son, Daniel (Elaine) of Fort Frances, Ont.; grandchildren, Aaron, Skipper (Gary), Sandy, Dustin, and Morgan; sister, Beulah Thimot of Paradise; and brothers, Lou (Gloria) of Barrington Passage, Clifton (Marlene) of Freeport, and Carson.
Earle was predeceased by his wife, Joyce (Clarke); daughter, Debbie (Huston); grandaughter, Jackie (Huston); sisters, Pearle, Edna, Gertrude, Louise, and Vesta; and brother, Raymond.
At Earle’s request, there are no services at this time.
In memoriam donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to any non-profit organization of your choice.
The Lord is my Pilot, I shall not drift. He guides me across the dark waters. He steers me in deep channels. He keeps my log. He pilots me by the star of holiness for His name’s sake.
Yea, though I sail ’mid the fenders and tempests of life, I shall dread no danger for He is near me. His love and care shelter me. He prepares a harbour before me in the homeland of eternity. He anoints the waves with oil, my ship rides calmly.
Surely sunlight and starlight shall favour me on my voyages, and I will rest in the Port of our Lord forever.
God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the Courage to change the things I can, and the Wisdom to know the difference.
Thy will, not mine, be done.
