EARL IVER SANDMOEN

It is with great sadness that the family of Earl Iver Sandmoen announces his peaceful passing, with family by his side, on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013.
Earl was born Nov. 27, 1931 to Alfred and Emma Sandmoen of Rainy River, Ont.
Earl was a man of many talents; he worked as a fishing guide, drove school bus, was a truck driver, and worked as a mechanic and welder in the Rainy River area.
After moving to Niagara on the Lake, Ont., he worked as a welder in the shipyards and GM Motors, retiring after 26 plus years.
After retirement, Earl owned his own company called Sandy’s Welding, was president of the Home Owners Association, and being president was invited to have dinner with Queen Elizabeth II when she visited in 1971.
He also was appointed special constable under the OPP and Niagara Regional Police.
Family and friends always enjoyed Earl’s company; he always had a joke to tell and made people laugh. He entertained by playing his accordion and singing favourite songs—some of which he had composed himself.
He loved to take Ruth out dancing; they spent many happy times together at dance functions. He also enjoyed travelling, visiting with family and friends, and going fishing.
Earl was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Rainy River.
Earl is survived by his son, Wayne (Ann); Wayne’s mother, Joyce; step-grandchildren, Michael (Sonya) Beaushene and Myndi Siemens; and three step-great-grandchildren, David Beaushene, and Jacob and Katie Siemens.
He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Ruth McGregor, who survives with her children, Donna (Steven) Walsh and Allan (Tara) McGregor; and grandchildren, Ashley (Michael) Perfetto, Mitchell (Melissa) Walsh, and Eric and Mathew McGregor.
Earl also is survived by his sisters, Beulah (Bill) Olson and Sandy Ross (nee Lillian Sandmoen); sister-in-law, Rose Hanson; cousins, Stan (Bev) Sandmoen and Walter Sandmoen; and numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Earl was predeceased by his parents; Alfred and Emma Sandmoen; and brothers, Harold, Miles, and Leo Sandmoen.
A celebration of Earl’s life was held Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 at 11.a.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, Ont., with Rev Jacob Quast Officiating.
