E. DONALD McFEE
E. Donald McFee passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 18, 2007 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. with his family at his side.
Don was born Sept. 3, 1916 in Gravelbourg, Sask. The family later moved to Rainy River District, where Don attended school in Miscampbell and then Fort Frances High School.
He served five years overseas with the CFC during WWII, where he met and married Phyllis (nee Pyle) in Inverness, Scotland. They celebrated their 63rd anniversary on Jan. 15, 2007.
Don was predeceased by his parents, Elias and Frances McFee; brothers, Ralph and wife, Florance, and Vaughn and wife, Pearl; and sister, Ena and her husband, James McAughren.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; daughter, Deirdre (Lloyd) Graham and grandchildren, Daryl and Adria Graham; son, Derek (Janis) and granddaughter, Kim (Kurt Brouillet), and great-grandchildren, Aaron, Alexander, and Sabra Brouillet; sister, Margaret Nelson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Upon returning to Fort Frances after the war, Don was employed as a millwright in the local paper mill and also was quite well-known as a gunsmith. His hobby included building planes (six), all of which he flew. His ambition when young was to fly—and he accomplished this ambition with style.
Cremation took place in Thunder Bay, Ont.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Jan. 22, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion in Fort Frances.
