DYMPNA TERESA KOZACHENKO

Kozachenko, Dympna

It is with great sadness that the family of Mrs. Dympna Teresa Kozachenko, late of Edmonton, Alta. and formerly of Atikokan, Ont., announces her passing after a brief illness on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016 at the age of 91.
She was born Sept. 2, 1924.
She is survived by her two daughters, Gail (Chris) Sanders of Edson, Alta. and Sgt. Wendy Kozachenko (Ret.) of Edmonton, Alta.; two grandchildren, Shari (Jeff) Tymo of Edmonton, Alta. and Robert (Heidi) Sanders of Edson, Alta.; and five great-grandchildren who were the light of Bopcha’s life, Aaron Tymo, Sydney Tymo, Declan Sanders, Fynn Sanders, and Kellyn Sanders.
Dympna also will be remembered by her sister, Gertie Matthews of London, England; sister-in-law, Kathleen Mohan of N. Ireland; brother-in-law, Joseph (Bev) Kozachenko of Burriss Twp, Ont.; two sisters-in-law, Vicki Dlugosz of Wainwright, Alta. and Judy Kozachenko of Fort Frances, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other family, and many dear friends.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Stan; her mother and father of N. Ireland; two brothers and two sisters also of N. Ireland; and her mother-in-law, father-in-law, two brothers-in-law, and two sisters-in-law.
Dympna met her beloved husband in England during WWII and they were married on Sept. 10, 1946.
She came to Canada with her husband on a troop ship in January, 1947. She and her husband, Stan, settled in Northwestern Ontario, where they raised their two daughters.
After her daughter, Wendy, retired from the Canadian Air Forces, she relocated with Wendy to Edmonton to be closer to her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a very strong and independent lady, and she raised her daughters to be like her.
When something caught her fancy, she had a wicked giggle/laugh that was infectious. She was greatly known for her feistiness.
As a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Memories Funeral Home, with Rev. Dean Dowle officiating.
