DR. AUDREY KINGSMILL JOHNSTONE

With regret we announce the death of Dr. Audrey Kingsmill Johnstone.
She was born May 17, 1926 in Kent, England and passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 2, 2009 after a series of illnesses.
Dr. Audrey Johnstone was raised in England, and on July 24, 1948 in England, she was united in marriage to Dr. Brian Johnstone. She graduated as a physician from the University of London, England in 1952.
Dr. Johnstone practised as a general practitioner in England from 1953 until 1966. In 1966, the family moved to Canada and settled in Fort Frances, Ont., where she continued her practice at Rainycrest Long-Term Care and for home care.
In past years, Dr. Johnstone also thoroughly enjoyed curling with colleagues and friends.
She received the Canadian Volunteer Award for her work with the Red Cross Blood Donor Clinic and various other activities. She also started the breast clinic and pap smear clinic in Fort Frances.
She was a kind and a gentle lady who will be greatly missed.
She was predeceased by her parents, Dorothy and Harold Brook; one sister, Jean LaBrum; and one brother, Tony Brook.
Dr. Audrey Johnstone is survived by her husband, Dr. Brian Johnstone; sons, Tony (Barb) of Kansas, and Ian and Alan of Fort Frances, Ont.; daughter, Ann of Fort Frances, Ont.; grandchildren, Mary Jo, Brian, Alexandra, and Mark; great-grandchildren, Sienna and Tristan; one sister, Evelyn Simpson of Kent, England; and many nieces and nephews.
At her request, cremation has taken place at Rainy River Cremation Services in International Falls, Mn.
A memorial service to celebrate Dr. Audrey Johnstone’s life will be held Friday, Oct. 9, 2009 at 5 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with Fr. Wayne McIntosh officiating.
Inurnment will take place at the Lady Frances Columbarium in Fort Frances Cemetery in Fort Frances.
The honourary pallbearers will be Sandra McKinnon, Eva Thornton, Sally Stewart, Rose Kantos, Twyla Howarth, June Keddie, Evelyn Metke, and Flora Danylchuk.
