DOUGLAS WILLIAM BROWN

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of a dear husband, father, and Papa, Douglas William Brown, on Friday, Nov. 20, 2009 at the age of 81 at home in Brantford, Ont. surrounded by loving family.
Doug was born Feb. 20, 1928 in Fort Frances, Ont. He was married to Edie (Keryluk) on Oct. 8, 1955.
Doug was employed at the local paper mill as a pipefitter, retiring in 1990 after 44 years of service.
He enjoyed getting the pool ready for his grandchildren and setting up the badminton net for their annual summer visit. He loved watching them have fun.
Doug also loved walking along the riverfront to Pither’s Point, and enjoyed going to Nickel Lake Shores with friend, Bill Fontana, where they fed and watched the birds.
Together they took great pride in building the perfect fishing shack.
Doug and Edie moved to Brantford in December, 2007 to be closer to family.
He is survived by Edie; daughters, Chris and husband, Derek Sidders, of Edmonton, Alta., Carol and husband, Murray Ross, of Winnipeg, Man., and Nancy and husband, Ron McIver, of Brantford, Ont., and son, Brad Brown of Brantford, Ont.; and his grandchildren, Lindsay Sidders Hodgins and husband, Jesse Hodgins, of Toronto, Ont., Courtney and Brittany Sidders of Edmonton, Alta., Kevin Ross of Winnipeg, Man., and Matthew and Brad McIver of Brantford, Ont.
Also surviving are his sisters, Wylma and husband, Ron Redford, of Fort Frances, Ont., Shirley Brown of Fort Frances, Ont., Myrtle Armstrong of London, Ont., and Betty and husband, Jack Toews, of Sherwood Park, Alta.; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Brown of Emo, Ont.
Also surviving are Edie’s sister, Angie and husband, Jim Sykes ,of Halifax, N.S.; brothers, Rick and wife, Joanne Martin, of Tiverton, Ont. and Ron and wife, Francine Keryluk, of Wendover, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Violet (Staples) Brown; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lonnie (Irene), Clarence, Charlie (Myrtle), Alvin (Shirley), Leo (Alice), and Stan (Doris), and sisters and brothers-in law, Norma, Vivian (Eric) Frudenberg, and Toots (Gordon) McConnell.
A celebration of his life was held Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Dennis Toll Funeral Home, with Rev. Randy MacKenzie officiating.
