It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Douglas Roy McLeod.
He was born on Oct. 1, 1926 and passed away on Monday, Dec. 19, 2016.
Dad had a very full life and if you were lucky enough to be his friend, you were lucky enough. Dad treasured all his friends over the years and always was there to lend a hand if needed.
Dad was very talented in his career; starting out at Camp Robinson on the Red Lake Road. During this time, he met Mom. They bult a life together and had a son, Jim, and a daughter, Heather.
They moved to our grandparents’ farm north of Emo, Ont., where they lived for a while before moving to Fort Frances, Ont.
Dad was employed as a crane operator at the local mill, where he worked until his retirement. The family lived in a house on King’s Highway for a few years before moving to the east end in 1962, where little brother, Campbell, was born, making the family complete.
Mom and Dad lived in the house on Williams Avenue for the remainder of their lives.
Dad took great pride in his house and gardens, with vegetables and flowers. In his spare time, he loved to fish and if you were lucky, you would be invited to one of his fish fries.
Dad recently moved Rainycrest when he no longer could stay at home.
Dad was predeceased by his wife, Elsie; parents, Addison and Muriel; brother, Stuart; mother-in-law, Frieda; father-in-law, Walter; brothers-in-law, Richard, Robert, Don, and Harold; sister-in-law, Margaret; and his special friend of many years, Betty Pryde.
Dad leaves behind his children, Jim (Lynda), Heather (Warren), and Campbell (Tammie); grandchildren, Jay, Austin, Brian, Darren, Tyler, and Jeremy; sister, Eldyne; sisters-in-law, Gertrude, Darlene, and Doreen; four great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
At Dad’s request, no funeral service will be held.
A memorial service will be held at a later date when Dad’s friends and relatives can attend to honour him.
