We, as a family, are sad to announce the passing of Dorothy W. Mitchell on Nov. 27, 2013 at age 95.
Dorothy was born April 10, 1918 in Carman, Man.
At the age of five, she, along with her parents, moved to Fort Frances, where her father had a job on the building of the paper mill. She attended Robert Moore and Fort Frances High School.
Dorothy was employed at three different stores and the mill. She met James Mitchell and they were married on Aug. 22, 1942.
Dorothy was an active member of the United Church, U.C.W., Emo Hospital Auxiliary, and Order of the Eastern Star. She also enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels.
Her hobbies were rug-hooking, paper-toiling, and macrame. Mom also enjoyed their cabin on Clearwater Lake and the years of living there in their retirement.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Lois (Dean) Olsen of Prince George, B.C.; grandsons, Robert (Vivian) of Prince George, B.C. and Jeff of Richterswil, Switzerland; and great-grandchildren, Katie, Krisitian, and Steven.
She also is survived by her sister, Shirley (Walter) Avis of Fort Frances, Ont.; and several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Ruth Williams; husband, James (Jim) Mitchell; brother, Frank (Donna); sister, Marion (Bill) Gow; and brother-in-law, George (Laura) Mitchell.
A celebration of her life will take place Friday, May 30, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, Ont., with Rev. Frances Flook officiating.
Interment will take place in Emo Cemetery.
