DOROTHY MAY REDFORD

Dorothy May Redford, 88, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at Rainycrest Home for the Aged in Fort Frances.
She was born Dec. 1, 1917 in Burriss, Ont. to Robert and Thurza Greenner. She was raised in the Burriss area, and sang in the local church and taught Sunday School as a young woman.
On Nov. 9, 1938, she was united in marriage to John Wesley Redford of Emo. Dorothy spent many happy years raising their four daughters and two sons on the farm and in Fort Frances.
She was an outgoing person who was very involved in her community. She was a leader of 4-H clubs, a member of the Lash Women’s Institute, Horticultural Society, and the Rebekah Lodge.
Over the years, Dorothy was active in the United Church and enjoyed singing in the choirs in Devlin and Fort Frances. She also loved creating history books of the local area, gardening, travelling, and visiting with family and friends.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents; husband, Wesley; son, Arthur; grandsons, Darryl and Dan; and brother, Robert (Bob).
She leaves behind to mourn her children, Jean Teeple and Margaret Kelly, both of Winnipeg, Man., Kathleen (Fred) Milke of Mississauga, Ont., Bonnie Lengyel of Kenora, Ont., and Frank (Sherri) Redford and Gordon Redford, all of Fort Frances.
She also is survived by her grandchildren, Beth, Carol, Wayne, Diane, Teresa, Ryan, Laurie, Cherie, Tara, Christa, Frank, and James; 20 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marion Greenner of Fort Frances, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation was held Friday, May 26, 2006 from 7-8 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances.
A funeral service was held Saturday, May 27, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Rev. Marietta Marshall officiated, with interment in the Emo Cemetery in Emo, Ont.
The pallbearers were Wayne Teeple, Ryan Milke, Frank Redford Jr., Justen Kroeker, Sid Greenner, and Jeff Hobson.
The honourary pallbearers were all of Dorothy’s family and friends.
