With great sadness and deep love we announce the passing of Dorothy Lillian Dokuchie (nee Bruyere), who passed away peacefully on August 28, 2026. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who brought so much warmth and laughter into the lives of those around her.
Born on June 25, 1940, she grew up as part of a large family with many brothers and sisters. She loved telling stories about her younger years and some of her most treasured memories were of watching and listening to her brothers playing instruments and singing. She talked about the old days with such vivid detail, spirit, and fondness, that those memories live on with the people she shared them with.
Dorothy treasured her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her home was always welcoming to her family and her kitchen was a place of comfort. She was an incredible cook, serving countless meals and homemade soups with love.
Dorothy worked hard all her life, working many different jobs including the Gourmet House, Dough and Deli, cleaning for Fox Construction, and finally, housekeeping at La Verendrye/Riverside, where she retired in 2005 after 25 years of service.
Dorothy loved old-time country music, gardening, swimming in the lake, long phone conversations, and her dogs, who were faithful companions to her in her retirement, especially her best canine friend Jackson, who will be laid to rest with her.
Dorothy will be remembered by those who knew her for having a laugh that was wonderfully contagious. She had the beautiful ability to find humour in everyday life and most of all in herself and it brought joy and smiles to the faces of everyone around her.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Joe; daughter Wanda; mother Constance; father Roderick; and siblings Smallie, Ralph, Swede, Howard, Gordon, Irving, Telford, Edith, Tommy, Yvonne and Carol.
Left to lovingly remember her are daughters Sheila and Pam (Allan), son Joe; grandchildren Roger, Brandy (Robin), Laura, Kendra, Brandon, Candace, Dorothy, Christa (John), Lindy (Bryce), Heather, Roman, Jake and Ginger; great-grandchildren Keith (Madison), Trinity (Evan), Layne, Xander, Owen, Bode, Lleyton, Emry, Evan, SJ and Willow; great-great-grandchild Malikai; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to her caregiver Gail McTavish who was wonderfully supportive to our mother/grandmother.
Dorothy leaves behind more than memories. She leaves behind stories that will continue to be told, recipes that will be savoured and passed on, songs that will bring her to mind, and family who will carry her love with them.
She will be deeply missed and forever loved. Her laughter may be quiet now, but the joy she brought into our lives will never be forgotten.
Rest peacefully. We will carry you with us, always.
As per Dorothy’s wishes, a private family gathering will be held in lieu of a funeral.
