The family of Dorothy Elizabeth Burrell is saddened by her passing on Monday, Feb. 16, 2015.
Dorothy was born Oct. 22, 1924 in International Falls, Mn. to Mary Ann (Callahan) and Crenvell (Chris) Campbell. She was the youngest of six children.
Dorothy married Roy Burrell in Fort Frances, Ont. on June 16, 1945 and became a landed immigrant. Together they raised four children.
Dorothy was very active in organizations, holding offices in most—Royal Canadian Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary (president), Royal Purple (Honor Royal Lady), Rebekah Redwing Lodge, CP&T, Knox United Church Ladies’ Auxiliary, and T.O.P.S.
Dorothy started her working career in the International Falls O&M Insulite Mill, later moving and working in Oregon. After her marriage and when her children were older, she went to work for Forsberg & Lindberg and Esquire Shop, and later as a classroom supervisor at Fort Frances High School.
Dorothy is survived by her four children, Mary (Dale) Cooper, Patricia (Ron) Frenette, Amy Jean Wreggitt, and James (Joanne) Burrell; eight grandchildren, Neil (Tanis) and Jon Cooper, Bradley (Martha) and Cameron (Lisette) Frenette, Danny (Kim) and Nick Burrell, and Melissa (Mark) Angove and Jamie (Kristen) Wreggitt; and 10 great-grandchildren, Jaden, Dakota, and Keaton Cooper, Lane Mann, Erica and Grant Frenette, Amara Wreggitt, Prestyn and Elliss Angove, and Connor Burrell.
She also is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Roy, in 2005; parents, Mary Ann and Chris Campbell; two sisters, Vivian O’Leary and Mary Ann Neveau, and three brothers, Jack, Robert, and Jim Ferguson, and all their spouses; mother- and father-in-law, Harry and Amy E. Burrell; stepmother-in-law, Velda Burrell; sister- and brother-in-law, Edna and Allan Avis; and son-in-law, Claude DeBenedet.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 23, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. in Hallett Hall at Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances.
Rev. Ralph Fluit officiated, with interment in the Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
The pallbearers were Dorothy’s grandchildren.
