DORIS MARY ANETA DARRAH

Doris Mary Aneta Darrah, 83, of 123 Abbott Rd., Atikokan, Ont., passed away Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010 at the Atikokan General Hospital in Atikokan.
She was born May 2, 1927 in Devlin, Ont. to the late Samuel and Mary Shine. Doris grew up in Devlin, where she later cooked and cleaned in the area for several years.
On April 24, 1950, she was united in marriage to Thomas “Tom” Darrah. Following marriage, they moved to Atikokan, where they raised their children.
Doris was a wonderful mother and home-maker. She also was a member of the Riverview United Church and the church auxiliary.
In earlier years, she enjoyed playing baseball, and in later years enjoyed bowling in the women’s league and seniors’ league. She also loved working with her hands making ceramics and pottery at workshops.
Doris will be missed dearly by her family and many friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Tom Darrah, in 2003; three brothers, Mel, Lyle, and Jim; and two sisters, Helen and Jean.
Doris is survived by one son, Hughie Darrah of Atikokan, Ont.; three daughters, Deborah Darrah and Joan Darrah, both of Atikokan, Ont., and June Darrah and Austin Scott of Fort McMurray, Alta.; two grandsons, Clayton and Devon Darrah of Atikokan, Ont.; and one granddaughter, Rebecca Scott of Fort McMurray, Alta.
Also surviving are one sister, Violet and husband, Don Doucette, of Fort McMurray, Alta.; three brothers, Harvey Shine and wife, Jeannine, of Devlin, Ont., Gerald Shine of Burriss, Ont., and Leonard Shine of Fort Frances, Ont.; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 27, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Riverview United Church in Atikokan, with Pastor Garry Billings officiating.
Family and friends may visit Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Green Visitation Chapel in Atikokan.
The pallbearers will be Len Darrah, Lawrence Bellamy, Frank Tucker, Wayne Cunningham, Chris Shine, and Gordon Shine.
Cremation will take place at Rainy River Cremation Services in International Falls, Mn.
Interment will take place at a later date in Little Falls Cemetery in Atikokan.
