Doris Jewett, 74, of 725 Morrison Cres., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999 at La Verendrye General Hospital. She was born April 7, 1925 in North Branch, Ont. to the late Adam and Hannah Elliott.
Mrs. Jewett had lived all her life in Rainy River District. She was an avid birdwatcher and nature lover, and was a member of Knox United Church.
Spending time with her family and friends was enjoyable to her but being a “Grandma” was most important.
Dorothy is survived by her four children, Holly and husband, Jim Whitehead, of Fort Frances, Ont., Dale and wife, Sharon, of Stratton, Ont., Derwin and wife, Leila, of Atikokan, Ont., and Blaine and wife, Connie, of Stratton, Ont.
Also surviving are eight grandchildren, David, Angela, Kyle, Kaija, Ashley, Jeremy, Brandon, and Megan; two great-grandchildren, Dallas and Samantha; six sisters, Betty Dillabough of Ottawa, Ont., Ethel Shrumm of Stratton, Ont., Sophie Desserre of Dryden, Ont., Arvilla Desserre of Pinewood, Ont., Claris Elliott of Pinewood, Ont., and Lovie Greer of Brooklyn, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was united in marriage June 15, 1956 to Carl Jewett, who predeceased her Sept. 29, 1990. She also was predeceased by her first husband, Alver Gustafson; an infant son, Dwight Gustafson; and sister, Bertha.
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 1, 1999 at 11 a.m. at Knox United Church. Rev. Patrick Playfair officiated, with interment in Pineridge Cemetery in North Branch.
Friends visited with the family Sunday evening, Oct. 31, 1999 at Knox United Church.
Pallbearers were Jason Whitehead, Moie Neilson, Clark Neilson, Howard Haw, Greg Herrmann, and Vernon Brown.
