Doris Dennis passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Riverside Health Care in Fort Frances, Ont.
Doris was born Dec. 22, 1922 in New Liskeard, Ont.
On July 1, 1946, she married the love of her life, Lester V. Dennis. They moved to Fort Frances in 1950 when Les started his practice as an optometrist.
Doris was a registered nurse, graduating from Toronto General Hospital in 1945, and worked for many years at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances.
Doris volunteered and helped others less fortunate than herself, including being involved in the CNIB and CMHA, and also was a Cub Scout leader. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, as well as a lifetime member of Rainycrest Auxiliary.
Doris loved her family and was very proud of all their accomplishments. She attended several of her grandchildren’s sporting events and dance recitals over the years, and was their #1 supporter.
Friends also were very important to Doris and she shared many enjoyable activities with them.
She was an avid reader and the library was her second home. Doris also loved the game of Bridge—an activity that continued until April of this year.
Doris was predeceased by her husband, Les, on June 17, 1984; and her parents, five sisters, and one brother.
Doris is survived by her sons, Hugh (Robin) of Fort Frances, Ont. and Michael (Julie) of Prince George, B.C.; as well as her grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Chris (Lindsay), Tyson (Robyn), Mark and Talisa, and Danielle (Scott) Witherspoon and Camden and Skye Lavallie and Lindsay Gustafson.
She also is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Donna (Les) McLean; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Doris had a zest for life and she loved to chat. She took an interest in people’s lives and she made all of us want to be better people.
She touched many lives and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
