DONNA LOUISE GOVIER

Surrounded by her loved ones, Donna Louise Govier passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026, following what was a long and courageous battle with cancer. She faced the past years with strength and hope, never giving up on making plans for the next season.

Donna was born in Baudette, Minnesota, to Holgar and Fannie Armstrong, on September 6, 1954. She was raised on the family farm alongside her siblings Stan, Verna, Ron, Norman, Gordon and Phyllis. There she became an exceptional gardener alongside her dad and learned to cook with her mother in the kitchen while enjoying a good cup of tea.

Donna married Herb on October 19, 1973, demonstrating for their children a long partnership based on commitment and patience, and the importance of a good sense of humour. While raising her family and farming with Herb, she enjoyed an over 40-year nursing career in Emo.

Mom was a fantastic cook, and loved planning gatherings for her family around the holidays. She loved following Canadian sports and was quick to defend her teams, always looking forward to cheering on the Blue Jays, the Maple Leafs and her favourite curlers. Through years of weekly scrabble club, shopping adventures and volunteering, mom made many friendships that would become invaluable throughout her illness. She was an avid gardener and loved fishing, often enjoying both with her brother Stan and sister-in-law Linda. Their loss left an irreplaceable void in her heart.

Mom was the quintessential caregiver to her family throughout her life, always thinking first about the needs of others, worrying tirelessly over her family and friends, and the happiest when she thought she was making your life easier. Never was this more apparent than with her eight grandchildren, Evan, Keira, Dillon, Olivia, Nicolas, Kensi, Zoey, and Benjamin. Grandma’s house was always filled with an abundance of treats and activity happening around the kitchen table. When she wasn’t orchestrating the latest board game or craft project, there were always outdoor toys, water ballon fights, or sliding happening on the farm. She knew each grandchild’s favourite snacks, their latest interests, and individual quirks. When she wasn’t trying to feed and entertain them, she was busy trying to cloth them, usually in something warmer. Each of her grandchildren’s lives has been uniquely made better for having had her as their Grama. We will be forever grateful.

Donna is survived by her husband of 52 years Herb; her children Corrie (Emma), Lisa (Ryan Stachow), Russell (Sabrina); and grandchildren Evan (Cassidy), Keira (Parker), Dillon, Olivia, Nicolas, Kensi, Zoey, and Benjamin. Also remaining are Gordon (Jeanette) Armstrong, Phyllis (Don) Lewis, Tom (Gail) Govier, and sister-in law Darlene Armstrong; along with many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life for Donna will be held at Northridge Funeral Home, Emo, Ontario, on Monday, March 30, at 1:00 p.m.

Donations in memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, or Riverside Health Care Facility “Lights, Camera, DIAGNOSIS” campaign.
