It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, auntie and friend with her family at her side on Sunday, August 5, 2012 at the La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, ON after a courageous battle with cancer.
Sass was born on July 10, 1952 in Fort Frances to Wallace and Minnie Crowe.
She lived in Fort Frances till 1983, when she moved to Quesnel, B. C. to be with the love of her life, Wayne Lee.
The family moved back to Fort Frances in 1995. During her work career in Fort Frances, Sass wore many hats.
She started casual for the school board, worked for Sunset Country Métis, Métis Nation of Ontario, manager at Kitchen Creek Golf Course, and for the last ten years, was Manager of Transportation at the Rainy River District School Board.
In her spare time, Sass enjoyed many family gatherings, spending time at the cabin, double-down, time with friends, as well as volunteering for many community events.
Not only was she a great Mom, but Sass had the gift of story-telling, especially funny stories about herself and her experiences.
When shared with family and friends, it was a good time had by all.
Most importantly, her great love of many of these things was shared with her four grandchildren, Randi-Rae, Justin, Carlee-Rae and Braeden.
Sass had a passion for golf—everything to do with golf from planning tournaments, participation in ladies night and women’s golf tournaments, coaching and instructing others, volunteering her time for golf clinics, and most recently was involved in instructing a group of ladies.
She held the club championship title more than once.
Her love of the game was shared and passed on to all her grand-children and many of her family and friends.
She enjoyed golfing in tournaments and scrambles with her brothers, always arguing with brother Bob about who was “captain.”
Just recently, Sass golfed in her last tournament with her brothers and nephews, and her last shot was the best shot of her life! Her family all knew it would be her last shot.
She leaves behind her children, Tracey Baldwin, and Aimee and Greg Beazley; mother, Minnie Crowe; sister, Betty Mainville; brothers, Ray (Wendy) Crowe, Fred (Lori) Crowe, Tom (Ruth) Crowe, Darrell Crowe, and Bob (Tammy) Crowe; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Sass was predeceased by her husband, Wayne, on August 5, 2000; father, Wallace in 1978; her brother-in-law, Nick Mainville in 2007; her niece, Whitney; and her nephews, Freddy and Ryland Crowe; as well as her grandparents, Margaret and Lute Calder.
A celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at 10 a.m., followed by a light lunch, at the Multi-Use Facility at Couchiching First Nation with Reverend Diane Clifford officiating. Cremation has taken place.
Everyone is invited to a 9 hole Scramble at the Heron Landing Golf Course. If interested, call Heron Landing to register. Shotgun start is 2 p.m.
The honourary pallbearers will be her nieces and nephews, along with Sass’s friend, Patrick Mills. They all held a special place in her heart—they were more like her own children.
