Donalda (Nell) Holden passed away June 2 in Emo, just three weeks shy of her 95th birthday.

She was born in Emo on June 23, 1927 to Noah and Sadie LaBelle. She was raised in Emo and the Dance Township areas.

Donalda was united in marriage to Stanley Holden in 1946 in Fort Frances. They raised their family on Crow Lake in Nestor Falls and built a tourist camp on Cameron Lake, where they worked very hard for many years. She moved to Fort Frances in 1965 so the youngest three children could get their high school diplomas. She worked very hard, running the tourist camp and raising seven children at the same time.

Donalda enjoyed the beautiful birds and animals, and especially God’s amazing creation. She always looked forward to the family get together on Crow Lake at her daughter Terri’s every summer. Over the years, she made several dear friends in the area and found great pleasure being around her congregation group.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Nioma Holden of Fort Frances; son Wayne, also known as Bucky (Deborah); twins Gary (Judy) and Terralyn (Silvio) DeDona, all of Nestor Falls; daughter Valerie Shelton of Payson, Utah; Judith (Richard) Dubuc of Devlin; and Lori (Lee) Herseth of Lake Kabetogama in Ray, Minn. Mom spent many summers there with her baby Lori, whom she loved so much.

She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She will also be greatly missed by her special nieces, Sandy Haney, Sadie Smith and their brothers Walter, Calvin and Wade Haglin.

She was predeceased by her husband Stan on November 23, 1967; her mother Sadie, brothers Charles, Walter and Calvin and baby sister Florence on October 10, 1938 in the Dance Township fire; her father Noah LaBelle on August 22, 1975; her darling sister Birdena Haglin on May 8, 2000; and her brother Ted LaBelle in June 1992.

As per her request, there will be no funeral service. Arrangements are being made through Northridge Funeral Home.
