Mr. Donald Young Bamford, husband of Barbara Bamford, of Water Street, Miramichi, N.B., passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998 at the age of 68.
Born in Blissfield, N.B., he was the son of the late William and Jennie (Mersereau) Bamford. He was a retired member of the Canadian Armed Forces and the former Royal Canadian Air Force.
Don was an avid outdoorsman, a writer, and a partner in Barb’s Flower Shop in Miramichi.
He is survived by his wife, the former Barbara Lindsay; four daughters, Deborah Logan of Fort Frances, Ont., Mrs. Linda Hunter (John) of Moncton, Mrs. Donna Veniot (Larry) of Hampton, and Mrs. Beth McCarthy (Walter) of Miramichi; three sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Dunphy (Arthur) of Miramichi, Mrs. Muriel Wilson of Moncton, and Mrs. Marjorie Campbell (Floyd) of Blissfield; one brother, Edward Bamford and his wife, Gloria, of Boston, Mass.; seven grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Remains rested at Adams Funeral Home Ltd. in Miramichi, with visiting on Friday, Jan. 1, 1999. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #3 held a service at the funeral home on Friday evening.
Funeral service was held from St. Andrew’s United Church on Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999 at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. Don Britt. The organist was David Bonnell and the congregational hymns were “Rock of Ages” and “Will Your Anchor Hold.” The choir anthem was “Nearer My God to Thee.” A solo, “How Great Thou Art,” was offered by Joanne Williams.
The prayers of approach were led by grandsons, Steven Veniot and Jefferey McCarthy. The scripture lessons were read by granddaughters, Kristina and Kelly McCarthy, and Laura Veniot. A poem, entitled “A Sad Farewell” and written by Don, was presented by son-in-law, Larry Veniot.
Pallbearers were Michael Wilson, Mark Currie, Allan Currie, Jonathan Campbell, Victor Dunphy, and Malcham Wilson.
Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Miramichi in the spring.
