Donald Redford, 83, of Emo, Ont., passed away Thursday, June 5, 2003 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
He was born Dec. 31, 1919 in Emo to the late Stephen and Edith Redford.
Don and his brothers, Steve and Ron, owned and operated gravel and logging trucks for many years. He also worked at the pulp and paper mill in Fort Frances for 32 years, retiring in 1984.
Upon his retirement, he continued to help his brother, Delbert, work the land which is the original family homestead.
Donald was very active within the Calvary Tabernacle Church, where he had been a former board member and Sunday School teacher. He also loved camping with his family at many of the provincial parks in Northwestern Ontario.
Don always loved working on mechanical things, whether it was his car or his tractor. In later years, he loved spending as much time as possible with his family, especially his grandchildren, Kristine, Erikka, Timothy, Rachelle, Jessica, Rebecca, Andrew, Angeline, and James.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Russell, in infancy, and Steven; and by one sister, Ruth Gunderson.
Donald is survived by his wife, Irene Redford of Emo, Ont.; three sons, Bryan and wife, Lois, of Fort Nelson, B.C., Dale of Banff, Alta., and Paul and wife, Kim, of Fort Frances, Ont.; and one daughter, Patricia and fiancé, Gerry Brestrich, of Edmonton, Alta.
He also is survived by two brothers, Ronald and wife, Wylma, of Fort Frances, Ont., and Delbert of Emo, Ont.; brothers-in-law, Ed Gunderson, Ezra and Barb Craven, and David and Melba Craven; sisters-in-law, Mildred Ouellette, Ethel Khober, Marlene and Bill Fedan, Betty-Lou, Barbara, Rick and Wanda; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorial services were held Monday, June 9, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Calvary Tabernacle Church in Fort Frances, with Rev. Stephen Laing officiating.
Honourary pallbearers were all family and friends in attendance.
The family would like to extend its heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Dr. Johnstone and the staff of La Verendrye General Hospital.
