Peacefully, on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont., Donald R. Penney of Fort Frances, formerly of Stratton, Ont. and Atikokan, Ont., passed away at the age of 72.
He was born in Stratton to the late George and Marguerite Penney.
Over the years, Donald worked at many places, including CN Rail as a B&B foreman, road construction and logging, the Caland Ore Mine in Atikokan, Atikokan Forest Products in Sapawe, and, until retirement, for D&L Grocery store in Atikokan.
He will be lovingly remembered by his brothers, Edward of Collingwood, Ont., Frank (Merle) of Lethbridge, Alta., Bill (Betty) of Stratton, Ont., and Leo (Bonnie) and Greg (Donna), all of Fort Frances, Ont.; sisters, Pat (Butch) Mosley and Lucille (John) Audette, all of Fort Frances, Ont., and Marie (Norman) Duhamel of Dryden, Ont.; and sister-in-law, Luree Penney of Sidney, B.C.
He also is survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews; and special friends, Don and Linda King and family of Atikokan, Ont.
Donald was predeceased by his parents, George (1971) and Marguerite (2001); brother, Philip “Flip” (1997); and sister-in-law, Peigi Penney (2005).
A celebration of Donald’s life will be held Friday, June 27, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, Ont. Interment will take place in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Stratton.
The pallbearers will be Stan Olson, Reuben Korb, Bill Romyn, and Don King. The honourary pallbearers will be all of Don’s nieces and nephews.
