DONALD PATTERSON LAW

Our wonderful Dad left us early on Sunday morning, March 22, 2009 when God put his arms around him and said “Come to me.”
Dad was born Sept. 7, 1920 in Fort Frances, Ont.
Dad leaves to mourn our mother, Norma, who will miss him so much.
His five children, who will cherish his memory forever, are Peter Law (Kathryn), Donna Kyliuk (Norman), Bobby Law (Joanne), Barbara Gushulak (Randy), and John Law (Kim).
His wonderful grandchildren, Amber Kyliuk (Dave), Micha Kyliuk-Smith (Colin), who was born on his birthday, Penny Crawford (Chris), Nicole Law and Chris Law, and Ayla, McKenzie, Jewel, David, Destiny, and Jonathan Law, were the joy of his life.
His great-grandchildren, McCallum and Kennedy Smith, and Taylor Crawford, were such a comfort in the last couple of years.
He also is survived by his sisters-in-law, Helen Krag and Irene Law.
He was predeceased by his brother, Ray; and grandson, Paul Gushulak.
Upon returning after five years overseas during WWII, he was employed at Gilmore & Noden Hardware. In 1959, he purchased the store and changed the name to Don Law Ltd.
In 1979, he moved to Winnipeg, Man. and worked for the Maytag Company. In 1989, he finally retired in Whiterock, B.C., where he and Mom spent 18 years of easy living.
He was a fantastic drummer and played in nightclubs when he was 16 at International Falls, Mn.
He formed his own band called Don’s Modernaires in 1946, the year that he and Mom were married. He played several dance jobs with many bands throughout his life.
His thrill in later life was playing with the Brock House Big Band in Vancouver. He stopped with that band at the age of 82 when he could no longer carry the drums.
He then donated his drums to St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Whiterock, where he accompanied Mom while she directed the choir and played the organ.
When he moved back to 436-909 Wilkes Ave.,Winnipeg, Man., R3P 2S5, he was so happy to get a snare drum to play with friends and especially with Al Andrusco at Sterling House, and accompany Mom with her choir.
In memoriam donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
I know a face I’d love to see,
A voice I’d love to hear
I know a hand I’d love to hold,
A smile so warm and dear
I know a heart, a loving heart
That was thoughtful kind and true
I know them all and loved them all
For they belonged to you
Forever my love, Norma
