Donald Cameron, 72, of Stratton, Ont., passed away suddenly at his home on Monday, March 30, 1998.
Don was born July 30, 1925 in Morley Township to the late Mary and Donald Cameron. At age 17, he went to British Columbia to join the navy and served in W.W. II as a cook/meatcutter on a minesweeping vessel.
Following the war, Don returned to Stratton and worked in logging.
On July 8, 1955, he was united in marriage to Patricia Shrumm. Together in 1958, they moved to British Columbia, where Don worked as a waterworks superintendent for the city of Vancouver. After his retirement in 1985, Don and Patricia moved back to Stratton.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and working on his land. He loved his family very much, and especially his grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his two brothers, Douglas and Lorne Cameron.
Don is survived by his wife of more than 42 years, Patricia Cameron of Stratton, Ont.; three daughters, Donna and husband, Claude Grondiness, of Williams Lake, B.C., Dianne Cameron of Winnipeg, Man., and Deborah and husband, Bill Robb, of Kimberley, B.C.; five grandchildren, Stephanie, Sabrina, Sarah, and Samantha Grondiness, and Donald Robb; sister, Irene Johnson of Burnaby, B.C.; brother, Jack Cameron and wife, Amy, of Stratton, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held Friday, April 3, 1998 at 2 p.m. at Stratton United Church in Stratton, Ont., with Rev. John McFarlane officiating.
Friends visited Thursday, April 2, 1998 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, Ont.
Honourary pallbearers were the members of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #99 of Emo, Ont.
In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, 840 Frenette Ave., Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 2N5.
