DONALD MOFFITT

Peacefully, with his family by his side, Don Moffitt, 67, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Don was born Dec. 19, 1937 to Mary and Thomas Moffitt in MacDiarmid, Ont. He received his public school education in Dorion, Ont. and graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Thunder Bay, Ont.
Don started his career in the forestry industry in 1954 with Domtar Corp. In 1958, he graduated from Maritime Forest Ranger School in Fredericton, N.B.
During his working career, he was employed at Jim Mathieu Lumber, Marathon Corp., Nova Scotia Forest Industry, Boise Cascade, and retired from Abitibi-Consolidated in 2001.
Don was past president of the Fort Frances Lions Club and was a recipient of a Melvin Jones Award. He was an insurance member of the Knights of Columbus for 45 years, a great carpenter, baseball player, and curler.
One of his proudest moments was coaching his son, Tyler, and Strait Minor PeeWee football team in Port Hawkesbury, N.S., and winning the provincial championship in 1976.
He was a loving husband, father, and papa.
Don was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Thomas Moffitt; and sisters, Bella and Mille.
Don will be greatly missed by his wife of 42 years, Patricia; son, Tyler and daughter-in-law, Leana; and his two cherished and precious granddaughters, Erika and Cassandra.
Also surviving are his brother, Joe (Sally) of Vancouver, B.C.; sisters, Helen (Jim) Perry and Rose Marie of Winnipeg, Man.; mother-in-law, Ethel Alexander of Fort Frances, Ont.; sister-in-law, Helen and husband, Peter Tureski, of Winnipeg, Man.; brother-in-law, Don Alexander and wife, Dorothy, of Atikokan, Ont.; special nieces, Jackie (Percy) Champagne, Gloria (Warren) Houghton, Carmel (Gary) Olson, and Patricia Binkley; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances, with Fr. Francis Pudicherry officiating.
Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery in Fort Frances at a later date.
Visitation was held Friday, Dec. 9, 2005 from 7-9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Parish prayers will be offered at 7:30 p.m.
The pallbearers were Bill Albright, Frank Mullner, Percy Champagne, Warren Houghton, Gary Olson, Wayne Hadfield, Larry Angus, and Shane Armstrong.
The honourary pallbearers were all of his family and friends.
