Don Madill’s family sadly announces his passing on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016.
He was born on Nov. 8, 1936 in Fort Frances to Bill and Ann Madill.
He attended Fort Frances High School, where he met his future wife, Roma Wardman. They married soon after graduation and would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary next May.
Don joined the local paper mill and worked as a beater engineer until his retirement in 1994.
He had a keen interest in the outdoors; he enjoyed fishing and hunting with his boys and his friends, and spending time at the cabin on Reef Point with family and friends (including his four-legged ones).
In his younger years, he played and coached hockey.
Don was a private, unassuming, and compassionate fellow with a tender heart. He had a great love for his family and took pride in all of their accomplishments.
Don was a homebody and in the summer months, his garage door always was open for visits and a “cold one.” The discussions usually centered around what was happening around town, world politics, and, of course, fishing and hunting.
He also was an armchair athlete, enjoying sports and whatever was on “the tube.” He grew an excellent garden and enjoyed the mushroom hunt every fall.
Don is survived by his devoted wife, Roma; son, Greg (Janene) and their children, Maxx and Joelle (Chad); son, Marc (Betty), her daughter, Tara (Jason), and kids, Ashyton, Caleb, and Kira; and his son, Brock (Darlene).
Also surviving are his sisters-in-law, Lou Neilson and Carol Barrell (Bob); brother-in-law, Clark Wardman (Judy); and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, John, Bill, and Ralph Madill; sisters-in-law, Gail and Olga Madill; and brother-in-law, Carmen Neilson.
In keeping with Don’s wishes, there will be no funeral.
In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or the Valley Diabetes (206 Victoria Ave., P9A 2B7), or to a charity of your choice.
Don will be dearly missed by his family and many close friends.
He is a special soul who made our world a better place just by having passed through it.
