With his wife by his side, Donald John Smith, 69, passed away peacefully of cancer on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016 at Rockyview General Hospital in Calgary, Alta.
Don grew up in Burriss, Ont. before moving west, where he worked for the provincial government of British Columbia for 35 years. He was a Mineral Claims Inspector and had been promoted to Gold Commissioner.
After he retired in 2015, it was his love of golf that kept him busy.
Don is survived by his wife, Alma, of Cochrane, Alta.; and daughter, Danielle (Brad), and step-grandson, Christopher; daughter, Melissa (Michael), and grandson, Nathan; and beloved family dog, Hershey, all of Calgary, Alta.
He was predeceased by his mother, Catherine Smith, of Burriss, Ont.
Cremation has taken place and at his request, no funeral will be held.
The family will celebrate his life with a private memorial this spring on a hiking trail in the Rocky Mountains where he loved to be.
