DONALD GEORGE MARCHUK

Donald George Marchuk peacefully passed away, in his 87th year, on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016 at his residence in Rainy River, Ont.
Dad slipped away from us to join his loved ones knowing his job here on Earth as father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, brother, and friend was done.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jean, in May, 1995; his loving son, Kevin (2011); two granddaughters, Shelley and Amanda; and infant twin grandsons.
He also was predeceased by his parents, Mae and George; and brothers, Dick, Dennis, and Steven.
Dad will be deeply missed by his children, Sheila (late Tom), Val (Lorne), Cathy (Walt), and Kim (April).
Don also was the proud grandfather of 14 grandchildren, Dean, Kristi, Allison, Ryan, Stephanie, Rosalyn, Kristopher, Blake, Ashley, Carly, Meghan, Jason, Maggie, and Kevin; 17 great-grandchildren, Shawn, Mercedes, Mackenzie, Luke, Torie, Grace, Gage, Caden, Cohen, Alex, Graham, Reese, Brielle, Keegan, Donnie, Charlie, and Lauren; and one great-great-grandson, Madden.
He was the dear brother of Gerry, Phyllis (Pete), and Sharon (Bill); brother-in-law of Lorna, Snookie, and Hilda McMahon (late Art); and dear friend of Elaine Bennell of Prince George, B.C., where Dad travelled many times and was treated royally by Elaine and her family.
Born on Nov. 18, 1929, Don began his working career at Steep Rock Mine at the age of 14. In 1946, he joined the C.N.R., first on the B&B, then braking, and finally retiring as an engineer in 1979.
Don’s love of the lake and the outdoors led to his second career, working for many years at Tamarack Lodge and Obabikon Bay Camp.
Dad also enjoyed coaching hockey, playing ball, curling, fishing, playing cards, and his Boston terriers. He loved his outings to the casino, and enjoyed sitting with family and friends reminiscing about old times.
A service of remembrance and thanksgiving for the life of Donald Marchuk will be held Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Roman Catholic Church in Rainy River.
Viewing will be held Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel.
Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Rainy River.
