DONALD ‘DON’ McRAE

Donald James McRae, 80, passed away in his home in Brantford, Ont. on Nov. 19, 2019.
He was born on March 28, 1939 to James “Jim” McRae and Ella McRae in Black Hawk, Ont.
On April 6, 1985, he married Anne MacPherson in Thunder Bay, Ont. They lived in Kenora, Ont. for many years.
Don spent his days working on the family farm with his father and cutting in the bush. He later went on to work in the mines and eventually spent most of his career at the Kenora paper mill.
Don will always be remembered for his incredible work ethic, generosity, and dedication to his family.
Don enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, travelling, and most of all, telling stories.
He had an exceptional memory and filled his stories with years of adventures.
Don also loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. There wasn’t a time his grandkids visited, that they didn’t go out and get ice cream.
Don is survived by his wife of 34 years, Anne McRae; his three daughters, Dawn-Jean McRae-Poskie (Jeff) of Cotton, Alanna Sanderson of Toronto, and Carol McRae; his grandchildren, Laura Poskie, Elizabeth Poskie, Jen Walker, and Christopher Jackson; his six sisters, Helen Lalonde, Mabel Caruso (Bob), Jean Miller (Steve), Mary Pope (Jack), Shirley McRae (Terry), and Sharon Schram (Philip); his sister-in-law, Mary Gaul (Jack); and several nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Jim and Ella McRae; his first wife, Maureen (Wilson) McRae; his sister, Kathleen Tilley; his four brothers-in-law, Lloyd Tilley, Len Lalonde, John Quinn, and Doug MacPherson; and his sister-in-law, Sheila Martin.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring or early summer of 2020 in Barwick, Ont.
