Donald Allan “Don” Pentney, 62, of Crozier, Ont., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. He was born May 7, 1941 in Rainy River, Ont.
Don had worked in both Kakabeka Falls and the Geraldton area with the Ontario Provincial Police for 16 years. He then began working as an insurance adjuster for seven years until his retirement in 1982.
He loved fishing, hunting, gardening, and boating. He loved Lake of the Woods and enjoyed spending time with his family on the lake. He also worked as a commercial fisherman with his father in his younger years.
Don was a licensed private pilot and had owned his own planes at one time. He also was one of the founding members and was instrumental in forming the Kakabeka Flying Club.
He was always there when someone needed a hand, either for advice or that tool or tester that was needed to finish the job.
Don was united in marriage March 22, 1985 to Terril Roy, who survives along with his two children, Chris (Barb) Pentney of St. Anne’s, Man., and Dr. Patricia Pentney of Fort Erie, Ont.; and two step-children, Cynthia (Ron) Patching and Randy Roden, all of London, Ont.
Also surviving is one grandchild, Brandon Roden of Fort Frances, Ont.; his mother, Katie Pentney-McDougal of Rainy River, Ont.; sisters, Ruth (Fred) Brett and Karen (Tony) Seepers, all of Sleeman, Ont.; brothers, Leland Pentney of Kamloops, B.C. and Ken (Laurie) Pentney of Sleeman, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Ernest “Ernie” Pentney; sister, Carol Berman; and brother, Albert “Buddy” Pentney.
Memorial services were held Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with Pastor Pat White officiating.
The honourary pallbearers were all of Don’s family and friends.
