It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Don Clarke Kerr on June 12, 2005 at the age of 81.
He leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 57 years, Gladys; children, Leslie, Susan, and David; grandchildren, Justin and Ryan; daughter-in-law, Christine; and special friend, Nora.
Don also is survived by his two sisters, Lois Milette and Olive Erickson; many brothers- and sisters-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews; and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Violet Kerr; brothers, Ross and Hugh; sister, Viola; brothers-in-law, Leslie Ward, Charles Lawrence, Lloyd Chezick, George Erickson, and Leonard Milette; and sisters-in-law, Kay Kerr and Erba Kerr.
Born in Fort Frances on Sept. 16, 1923, Don was the youngest in a family of six children. He joined the army in 1941 and served in the Italian, French, Belgian, and Dutch campaigns.
When he returned home after the war, he began working at the pulp and paper mill, where he stayed until his retirement 41 years later.
Don was a devoted family man who loved family get-togethers—planned and unplanned. Many fun weekends were spent with family at the cabin on Wasaw Lake.
He was proud to be a veteran of World War II and greatly enjoyed his return visit to Holland for the 55th anniversary of the end of the war.
Don also loved to travel with Gladys and they went to many interesting destinations in Europe, the United Kingdom, and winter sunspots. In his later years, you could always find him at the golf course with his buddy, Jean.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 17, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Knox United Church in Fort Frances, Ont.
The honourary pallbearers will be Jean Camirand, Jack Smeeth, Wayne Ross, Ken Kellar, Norman Wood, and Claude DeBenedet.
The family wishes to thank family and friends for their support, and the medical and home care practitioners for their kindness and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations may be made to the Knox United Church or Canadian Cancer Society.
