Dettmar Erwin Ruppenstein, 90, of Fort Frances, Ont. was called to be with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family.

Dettmar was born on June 3, 1931, in Tunnischken, Kreis Elchniederung to Max and Anna Ruppenstein in East Prussia, Germany. During World War II he fled with his parents to Schleswig-Holstein. He was united in marriage to Sieglinde Keller on August 14, 1959. Together they built a beautiful life with their seven children while he achieved his Masters in Gardening and Landscaping. Following their faith, they immigrated to Canada in 1983, settling in Devlin, establishing a family landscaping business. Dettmar loved spending time with his family; sharing his faith, stories, and love of music. He was an avid reader, played several instruments and composed memoirs on his computer that were regularly published in the German periodical “Die Elchniederung.”

Dettmar will be greatly missed by his wife Sieglinde; children Adelheid Ruppenstein (Richard), Matthias (Nicole) Ruppenstein, Agnes Ruppenstein, Dettmar (Brenda) Ruppenstein, Thorsten (Lisa) Ruppenstein, Olaf Ruppenstein (Shannon) and Joerg Ruppenstein (Paula); grandchildren Stéphanie, Éric, Ann, Marc (Tracy), Tyler, Tristan, Tayah, Tyler-Shane, Monika, Nikolas, Curtis, Alex; great-grandson Kurt; and everyone who knew and loved him.

He was predeceased by his parents as well as his brothers Gerd, Manfred, and Egon.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private family service was held at the Church of the Lutheran Hour on Monday, October 25, 2021. Interment took place in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.

Honourary pallbearers: Richard, Éric.
