Boozhoo, it is with great sadness that the family of Desiree Alfred announces her passing on Sunday, April 10, 2022, in Fort Frances, Ont.

Desiree was born on July 16, 1979, in Smithers, B.C., to Janie Alfred & (Ⴕ) Stanley R. Williams. She grew up in Ear Falls, Ont. She moved to Couchiching First Nation as a young beautiful woman, finishing high school before studying Aboriginal Law and Advocacy and Culinary Arts. Desiree was passionate about cooking; she frequently catered for community members and was planning to open a catering business / food truck this year. She was proud of her Ojibway and Witset traditional background. She enjoyed learning / living the traditional teachings. She loved to spend time with family and friends, especially her children, whether it being swimming, fishing or just being indoors watching all her favorite movies. She was always quick to offer help to others and never asked for anything in return.

Desiree’s family includes her partner, Derek Turcotte; children Keenan, Austin, Emily and Lennox; father of her children Cory Morrisseau; parents Janie Alfred and (Ⴕ) Stanley R Williams; sisters Deirdre Alfred (Ed), (Ⴕ) Darcie Alfred, Miranda Alfred, Candy Ferfon, (Ⴕ) Joyce Williams, George Williams, Cindy Lebarge (Scott), (Ⴕ) Robert Kennedy, Christina Kennedy, Stephanie Lovelace; as well as numerous aunties, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many close friends from B.C. and Ont.

A traditional wake will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. at the Couchiching First Nation Multi Use Facility.

A traditional funeral ceremony will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at the Couchiching First Nation Multi Use Facility. Interment will take place in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery.

The Pallbearers will be Mike Williams, Darren Henry, Wilfred Alfred, Neil Alfred, Sonya Alfred, Cody George, aunty Rose Alfred-Sam and other cousins.

The Honorary Pallbearers will be Dianna Singleton, Singleton sisters and brother family, Amber Morrisseau, Yvonne Adams, Cory Morrisseau, Stephen Gibbins, Haley Bruyere, aunty Christine Alfred, Charlene Jacobs, Krissy Gomez, aunty Alice Alfred, Raymond Harris, Delany Sam, Darnell and Crystal Alfred, aunty Charlotte Alfred, Archie and Pierce George, uncle Jeffrey Alfred, uncle Lenard Alfred, aunty Mugsy and LuLu LaRose, aunty Florence Williams, Mike Williams, aunty Dorothy and uncle Dennis Wilkins, Robert Wilkins, Sandii Wilkins, Chad Wilson, uncle Gilbert Williams, uncle Kenny Williams, Nephews Xavier, Hunter, Phenix, David and Michael Williams, Nieces Tina Heytens and Dawn Ferfon and niece Eva Ickes and many more close friends – too many to mention, sorry if we missed your name.
