Denise M. Bluebird (“Hazhwebinsik”), 54, of Nett Lake, Mn., formerly of New Haven, Conn., passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Essentia Health (St. Mary’s Hospital) in Duluth, Mn.
She was born in Hartford, Conn. on Dec. 13, 1956 and grew up in New Haven.
She served in the U.S. Army Reserve for six years and moved to Minnesota in 1987. She also lived in Canada for a time, where she was formally adopted by the Ojibway of the Treaty #3 area.
Denise loved being outdoors, going for walks in the woods, and was a talented quilter. She also loved travelling and spending time with her significant other, Jerome Whiteman.
Denise was very happy and fulfilled these last years of her life. She was loved by many and will be sadly missed.
She is survived by her mother, Nancy Buckland of Cromwell, Conn.; two sons, James (Melanie) Horrocks of Carthage, N.Y. and Edwin Bluebird of Fort Frances, Ont.; one daughter, Sondra Horrocks of Orlando, Fla.; and her significant other, Jerome Whiteman of Nett Lake, Mn.
She also is survived by one brother, Richard (Elizabeth) Buckland Jr. of Cromwell, Conn.; three sisters, Michelle (Daniel) Collins of Atlanta, Ga., Christine (Salvatore) Midolo of North Haven, Conn., and Lee (Jeffrey) Toole of Dalton, Pa.; three grandchildren, Cody, Gavin, and Brent Horrocks; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
