It is with profound heart ache that the family of Delia Sue Whitecrow announces her passing on Friday, June 3, 2022, at the LaVerendrye Hospital.
Delia was born on May 23, 1978, in Fort Frances to Andrew Johnson and Celina Whitecrow. She grew up in Seine River First Nation, Ontario, graduating from Fort Frances High School and attending Rainy River Community College before working as Teacher’s Assistant at Robert Moore. She also worked at the United Friendship Centre as a Youth Worker and held various positions in the Seine River First Nation Community Care Program. She enjoyed beading, traditional dancing, going to camp, listening to music and road trips. She loved making things, was always watching videos and trying new projects. Above all Delia loved children, she doted on her own and opened her home to foster children. She loved being a mother and always the first to organize a birthday party or baby shower.
She will be greatly missed by her children Shayden, Chase and Ciarra; mother Celina Whitecrow; step-father Norman Arthur Girard; father Andrew Johnson; brother Shane Whitecrow (Jennifer); sister Zerlina Whitecrow; step-brother Phillip Baker; step-sister Christine Paquet; uncles and aunties Howard Whitecrow (Nora), Ralph Johnson (Sarah), Judy Bird, Sue Whitecrow (Rob) and Shirley (Drew) Atwell, Edna Morrison, Cecilia Kabatay; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Delia was predeceased by her son Miiziwe-yaabiik (Bryce); eldest sister Petrina Whitecrow; grandparents Joe and Irene Whitecrow and Stanley and Evalyna Johnson; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A traditional wake will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at the Cultural Centre in Seine River First Nation.
A traditional funeral ceremony will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2022, at the Cultural Centre in Seine River First Nation. Elder Ralph Johnson will officiate with interment in Seine River First Nation.
The pallbearers will Darcy Whitecrow, Jason Mainville, Jamon Leonard, Ethan Whitecrow, Dominick Blackjack, William Goodwin, Ringo Whitecrow, Dorian Whitecrow.
The honourary pallbearers will be Carrie Boshkaykin, Ann Strand, Tammy MacLeod, Jake Fazzel
