It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Debora Svoboda (nee MacDonald) of Fort Frances, on Saturday, March 9, 2024. Debbie, as everyone fondly knew her, was born August 5, 1957, in Red Lake, Ontario, to Arline and Buddy MacDonald. Moving with her family, she spent most of her childhood in Atikokan, Ontario.
Debbie met her one true love, Shane Svoboda, and they wed November 17, 1978, deciding to make Fort Frances their forever home. Together they welcomed two beautiful children, Nathan and Tara, who still reside in Fort Frances.
Debbie’s wishes were to always help and care for others, leading her to a lifelong career in nursing. She held numerous positions throughout her career, gaining admiration from her colleagues and patients she cared for in Fort Frances.

Debbie had a positive impact on everyone she chose to have in her life, including her special friendship with Jean Scheirer of Fort Frances. They made many memories traveling and day trips away to the casino or just for a day of shopping. Although busy with career and family, she always knew the importance of making time for friends.
Debbie’s caring nature extended to animals as well… never turning away a stray, she always had a home filled with love and many, many cats and dogs.
Debbie and Shane shared a love of travel, travelling numerous places while the children were young and then later continuing to travel and spend winters in Arizona or Florida making memories, although if you asked Debbie’s opinion, Arizona was far superior.
A dedicated wife, mom, auntie and friend, Debbie leaves to mourn her husband Shane Svoboda; and her children Nathan and Tara. Also surviving are her siblings Donna MacDonald, Kathy MacDonald (special friend Mike) of Fort Frances, Shelly MacDonald and John Van Nus of British Columbia; brothers-in-law Bill and Bob Svoboda; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and close family friends.
Debbie was predeceased by her parents Buddy and Arline MacDonald; her brother Rick MacDonald; nephew Leslie Brown John; and brother-in-law Jack Svoboda.
Debbie will be sadly missed by all who loved and respected her.
