DAVID CHARLES (DAVE) ARMIT

David Charles (Dave) Armit, 69, of 149 Sixth St. E., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away suddenly on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
He was born April 4, 1936 in Fort Frances to the late Charles and Cecilia Armit.
Dave grew up as a youth on the 600 block of Third Street East (Calderville). He had great pleasure reminiscing about some of the things that went on in the old neighbourhood—and there are some things we can’t put in print.
As a young man, Dave joined the Canadian Air Force and was stationed at the base in Trenton, Ont. Upon his return to Fort Frances, he was employed by the O&M pulp and paper mill working at Sand Island Falls.
Dave could tell some pretty hilarious stories about those days.
Following his work at Sand Island Falls, Dave worked at highway construction and worked on the construction of the Noden Causeway, as well as working on highway construction in the Kenora area.
In 1967, Dave began his employment in the local mill, where he worked in the Finishing Room and retired as a foreman in 1994.
Dave loved the outdoors, where his interests included trapping (the North End skunks), hunting, and fishing with family and friends.
Dave also was a perfectionist with his garden. It always was a source of pride and he always made it a work of art. In the fall, he always was sharing his crop with others.
Dave was an avid hockey fan and loved watching the local youth play from his corner spot in the arenas. A trip to the arena was always with his grandson, Brodie, beside him. He was really enjoying watching Brodie participate in the game of hockey.
Dave was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29.
On July 19, 1958, Dave was united in marriage to the former Bernice Boyda, who survives along with their three children, Charles “Chuck” Armit, Debbie and husband, Derrick Lawres, and Lisa and husband, Todd Plourde; and four grandchildren, who he was so fond of, Courtney, Brodie, and Abby Plourde, and Alissa Lawres, all of Fort Frances, Ont.
He also is survived by two brothers, Donald Armit, and Robert Armit and wife, Erma, of Fort Frances, Ont.; two sisters, Dede and husband, Ken Egan, of Fort Frances, Ont., and Louisa and husband, Dick Johnson, of Apple Valley, Mn.; brother-in-law, Jim Gladu of Fort Frances, Ont.; sister-in-law, Elise Boyda of Atikokan, Ont.; and brother-in-law, Jack Boyda of Surrey, B.C.
He also is survived by numerous other relatives; and special friend and neighbour, Ed Morneau.
Dave was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Cecilia; father- and mother-in-law, Bill and Elizabeth Boyda; brother-in-law, Frankie Boyda; sister-in-law, Marion Gladu; and nephew, Patrick Egan.
A celebration of Dave’s life will take place Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29 in Fort Frances.
If friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made either to the Canadian Cancer Society, P.O. Box 444, Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3M8, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, 920 Frenette Ave., Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3N4.
