DAVID ANDREW GALBRAITH

David Andrew Galbraith, son of the late Ellen Farmer Galbraith (Clunie) and the late William Donnell Galbraith, passed away in the presence of his loving children on Monday, Sept. 26, 2005 at the Brantford General Hospital in his 88th year.
He was the loving husband of the late Alfreda Josephine Galbraith, nee Herrem, of Fort Frances, Ont., who predeceased him on Nov. 25, 1993.
He is survived by his daughters, Andrea Jean of Waterloo, Ont., and Elizabeth Annette and her husband, Dr. Leonard Hamm, of Point Roberts, Wash.; son, John William (Bill) and wife, Kate, of Ottawa, Ont.; and his second wife, Eileen of Paris, Ont.
He was the beloved grandfather of David, Karen, and James Galbraith, and Beth, Andrew, and Christopher Lowes.
Also surviving are his sister, Jean Hegler and her husband, Bert, of Milwaukee, Ore.; sister-in-law, Lavonne Galbraith of Green Bay, Wis.; brother-in-law, Harold Herrem and his wife, Irene, of Fort Frances, Ont.; and many nieces and nephew.
David was predeceased by his brother, William.
David was born in Montreal on Jan. 10, 1918. He spent most of his life in Fort Frances, marrying Freda in August, 1941.
He served overseas with the Royal Canadian Air Force until 1945. After the war, he returned to Fort Frances and tried his hand at raising chickens and managing a clothing store before finding his career in insurance.
David was known by many people in Fort Frances and surrounding area as an agent for the Mutual Life Insurance Company, and for his involvement in the community.
He was involved with Boy Scouts of Canada for many years, active in Kiwanis and Sunny Cove Camp, and served on the Police Commission for 10 years. He also was active in provincial and federal politics.
He received his mutual fund license at the age of 72.
David also was an active outdoorsmen, with a love of fishing, hunting, and swimming. His family have many fond memories of the cabin he built on Rainy Lake.
In his later years, he became an avid gardener with a special love of the iris.
He retired, remarried, and moved to Brantford, Ont. in 1995, expanding his circle of friends.
The funeral service will be held Monday, Oct. 3, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Knox United Church in Fort Frances, with interment to follow in Riverview Cemetery.
