Darren Andrew Richardson passed away at TBRHSC on Sunday, June 11, 2006, with family by his side, after a defiant battle against leukemia.
He was born June 13, 1967 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. and moved to Thunder Bay in 1972.
His main interests were city politics and sports. He participated in past years in the mayor’s walk and his favourite charity was the Cystic Fibrosis Mother’s Day telethon.
He is survived by his mother, Vi Hautala (Bill) of Thunder Bay, Ont.; father, George Richardson (Julia) of Edmonton, Alta.; brothers, Craig of Edmonton, Alta. and Vaughn (Suzanne) of Ladysmith, B.C.; and sisters, Cindee Richardson of Canberra, Australia and Claire Richardson (Tom Dampier) of Nipigon, Ont.
He also is survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, as well as Bill’s children, Karen and Keith.
He fought his last battle defiantly: “no deal”; “no more tests”; “that’s final”; “it’s my decision”.
The family especially wishes to thank Drs. David Anthens, Laferriere, and Simpson and the caring nursing staff on the Surgical & Oncology units.
Cremation has taken place, and a private family service was held at Blake Funeral Chapel in Thunder Bay on Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at 11 a.m.
If friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to Northern Cancer Research Foundation.
