DARLENE JOAN WARD

Darlene “Joan” Ward, daughter of Fred Gorrill (1938) and Tillie Kreger (1968), was one of four beloved step-daughters of Adolph Werner.
Joan was born in Harris Hill, Ont. on July 13, 1935. She was baptized in the name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit on Aug. 27, 1939.
She confessed her baptismal faith in the rite of Confirmation on April 30, 1952 and was admitted to the altar to receive the medicine of immortality, Christ’s life-giving body and blood.
Joan was joined together in holy matrimony to Sidney Ward on May 22, 1964. On May 1, 2012, with her family at her side, she fell asleep in Jesus.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, and friend to anyone who had the good fortune to know her and she will be greatly missed.
Joan is survived by her husband, Sidney Ward, and children, Laureen (Earl) Vandetti, Alexis and Jordan; Dale (Terri Ann) Ward, Alzias and Dylan; Glenn Ward, Vanessa, Tori, and Tatum Hebert; Marilyn (Richard) Vollebregt, Bronte and Haiden; and Darrin (Patti) Ward, Kobi and Isabella.
Also surviving are her very special sisters, Ginny (Cecil) Leif, Sylvia Coulombe, and Carol (Clifford) Robinson; as well as the many Ward sisters-in-law, brothers-in-laws, nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins.
She was predeceased by her father, Fred; her mother, Tillie; step-father, Adolph; and her brother, Edward.
A funeral service was held Friday, May 4, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the Church of the Lutheran Hour, 508 Victoria Ave., Fort Frances, Ont., with Rev. Jacob Quast officiating.
Interment followed the service at Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
A reception was held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Fort Frances at around 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, Joan requested that in memoriam donations be made to the Church of the Lutheran Hour for its mission work c/o Northridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 89, Emo, Ont., P0W 1E0.
