DARLEEN GRENNIER

Peacefully, on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009 at her residence in Fort Frances, Ont., Darleen Grennier passed away at the age of 78 with her husband, Ted, by her side.
Darleen was born March 26, 1930 in Devlin, Ont. to the late John and Jenny Patterson. She was united in marriage to Edward (Ted) Grennier on Oct. 21, 1948.
As a young woman, Darleen worked at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. until her marriage, at which time she devoted herself to her home and family. The farm in Emo was the gathering place for extended family. Everyone has a story about Auntie Dar.
In 1972, she took a housekeeping position at the Emo Hospital, where she remained until retirement, after which she and Ted enjoyed many travels around the world. She often spoke of their adventures and had a special fondness for New Zealand.
Darleen loved to cook for her family and was happiest when the house was full with everyone around her. She was an amazing mother, and each of her grandchildren held a special place in her heart. They were her pride and joy.
She also took great pleasure in caring for her flower gardens every summer.
Darleen will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Ted, of 60 years; sons, Lorrie (Mary) of Fort Frances, Ont. and Brent (Laurel) of Dryden, Ont.; daughters, Jeanette of Winnipeg, Man. and Deb (Norbert) of Dryden, Ont.; and daughter-in-law, Glenda, of Emo, Ont.
She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Todd (Tracy), Paul (Nicole), Sarah, Eric, Bryan (Lindsay), Blair (Paula), Matt (Kelly), Renee, Melina (Sammy), and J.P. (Loren); and great-grandson, Kalin. She also will be missed by her loving and faithful dog, “Julie.”
Darleen also is survived by her sisters, Ferne (Angus) Hyatt and Eileen Martin; brother, John (Helen) Patterson; in-laws, Buzz (Marie) Grennier, Allan (Irene) Grennier, Joyce Lalonde, and Evelyn Grennier; and many nieces and nephews.
Darleen was predeceased by her parents, John and Jenny Patterson; son, Rick (1972);, sisters, Ethel (Bill) Stephenson and Myrtle (Bill) Miller; and in-laws, Ida and Ezra Grennier.
As per Darleen’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service.
Interment will take place in Emo Cemetery at a later date.
