Daniel Al Halvorsen, 69, passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010.
Daniel was born Jan. 6, 1941 in Barwick, Ont.
He worked for Ontario Hydro for one year. He then was employed by Mando Pulp and Paper until they ceased operations at One-Sided-Lake.
He then started his own private trucking operation, working at that until the early 70s. He later was employed with Hacquoil Construction as a float truck driver until his retirement in 2001.
He loved his machines, and spent much of his retirement putting up wood on his property in Marks Township and doing odd jobs for his neighbours.
He also took great pride in his vehicles, keeping them shiny and clean and in tip-top shape. He took great pride in both of his sons and their achievements.
His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he enjoyed his special times with them; babysitting and visiting and watching his eldest grandson Aaron’s hockey games.
He will be dearly missed by them all.
He also had a special place in his heart for animals, especially his granddog of 17 years, Scruffy.
Daniel is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Carolyn; sons, Guy (Angie) and Cory (Jennifer); grandchildren, Aaron, Krysten, Katelyn, and Hayden; brothers, Terry (Diane) and Doug (Eila); and sister, Judy Armstrong (Jack Kendal).
He was predeceased by his parents, Al and Katherine Halvorsen.
As per his wishes, a private family memorial service will be held.
Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Thunder Bay, Ont.
In memoriam donations may be made to the Diabetes Association, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the Thunder Bay District Humane Society.
A tree will be planted in memory of Daniel Halvorsen in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove at an annual dedication service on Sunday, June 12, 2011.
