DALE GARFIELD LIND

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Dale Garfield Lind on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011 at the age of 79.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine, and three children, Gregory (Debbie), Duane (Connie) and Cami (Roland); eight grandchildren, Krista, Steven, Stacey, Kara, Trevor, Erin, Amy and Krysten; and six great grandchildren, Taylor, Brody, Gabriel, Chloe, Jason and Connor; one niece, and four nephews.
Dale was born in Sprague, Man. to Axel and Thyra Lind on April 13, 1932, the eldest of three sons.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Duane and Peter, and his parents, Axel and Thyra Lind, and several aunts and uncles.
Dale was employed with the CNR as a telegraph line crew foreman which took him from east to west, after which the company changed hands and became Unitel, now Allstream. He worked as a plant technician until his retirement in 1991, after 40 years of service.
After living in northern Saskatchewan and Winnipeg they moved to Atikokan where they resided for 30 years and raised their family.
Dale was transferred to Fort Frances in 1988 and they lived there for 22 years, returning to Atikokan in November of 2010.
He was very community minded serving as chairman of the Little Falls Community Centre Board for 12 years and was instrumental in the design of the building.
He served as president of the Atikokan Curling Club, Recreation Board, Arena Building Committee and was involved as treasurer of the Kiwanis Club for six years and was a loyal Legion member.
Dale enjoyed coaching Little League ball and had a special interest in his children’s hockey, battling many snow storms to get them to their tournaments away from home.
He loved golfing and curling and was a fierce competitor, especially with himself.
He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and the outdoors.
A gathering of friends and family to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 145 in Atikokan.
Honourary pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
